Caversham wildlife park

Caversham

When we expressed a wish to go to a ZOO in Australia, our friend said no, You need to go to Caversham. She explained that You can pet animals there and that there were daily shows that are interesting for kids and we loved the sound of it.

At the entrance a kind lady gave us a map of the park and marked times of events and shows. The park was not very crowded so it was a nice walk, we took our time. You can walk the whole park slowly and see it all in 2-3 hours. When we got to kangaroos we spent a while there, You could pet them and feed them, our son was really enjoying himself.

Kangaroo petting and feeding

We attended an educational farm show where we saw a stockman who taught us a little something about herding sheep, about shepherd dogs, milking cows, bottle feeding a lamb and shearing sheep. Later on they asked for volunteers who learned to crack a whip. Really interesting for children.

The next event we attended was taking pictures with koala's. It was nice to take a few pictures with cute bears and learn a few things about them. As everyone in Australia the people who take care of koala bears were very forthcoming and answered all of our questions.

As our son had enough, at the exit he took a spin at the carousel, an we were ready for some food and ice cream. Our son had a sandwich, me and my wife had a vegetarian muffin and I had a cup of coffee. Since this is not a restaurant I had no high expectations and was even pleasantly surprised. The coffee was a machine coffee but everything else tasted fresh.

We were ready to leave now, after a really nice day in Caversham.
